Why in News?
The Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (KeSCPCR) will launch Radio Nellikka, an Internet radio for children, on June 18 to promote child rights, safety, mental health, and education.
Description:
- Establishment – The KeSCPCR was established under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005 and governed by the Kerala State Commission for Protection of Child Rights Rules, 2012.
- Mandate – It safeguards and monitors the enforcement of child rights in Kerala in alignment with the Indian Constitution and UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- Structure – The commission comprises 1 Chairperson and 6 Members, assisted by a Secretary who manages its administration.
- Powers – KeSCPCR has investigative powers to inquire into violations of child rights and functions as an appellate authority under the Right to Education (RTE) Act.
- Functions – It advises the state government on child rights, ensures compliance of laws with child rights principles, and raises awareness across Kerala.
