Description:
- Purpose: Operation Sindhu was launched by the Government of India in June 2025 to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran due to escalating tensions between Iran and Israel.
- First Evacuation: The first batch of 110 Indian students was evacuated from northern Iran via Armenia, and they reached Delhi on 19th June 2025.
- Route Used: Evacuees were transported by road to Yerevan, Armenia, under the supervision of Indian missions in Iran and Armenia, before boarding a special flight to India.
- MEA Coordination: A 24×7 Control Room was set up by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Indian nationals were advised to stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
- Diplomatic Channels: India coordinated with friendly neighboring countries of Iran — especially Armenia, Iraq, and Turkmenistan — for safe passage, as ties with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan are either strained or limited.
