Why in News?
NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Suman Bery announced that the Cabinet note for the National Manufacturing Mission (NMM) is under preparation. The Mission aims to boost India’s manufacturing share in GDP by strengthening supply chains, standards, and skill ecosystems nationwide.

About the Mission:
- Covers small, medium, and large industries to promote inclusive industrial growth.
- Aims to provide policy suppor t, implementation roadmaps, and monitoring structures for Central Ministries and States.
- Seeks to enhance domestic value addition and build self-reliant supply chains in critical manufacturing sectors.
Objective: To position India as a global manufacturing hub, enhance employment, and reduce import dependence in critical sectors.
Five Focal Areas:
1. Ease and Cost of Doing Business – Simplified procedures and lower compliance burden.
2. Future-Ready Workforce – Skill development for emerging sectors.
3. Vibrant MSME Sector – Boost innovation, financing, and global linkages.
4. Technology Availability – Adoption of advanced manufacturing technologies.
5. Quality Products – Global standards and export competitiveness.
Key Focus Sectors:
- Clean Tech Manufacturing – Solar PV cells, wind turbines, electrolysers.
- Electric Mobility – EV batteries, motors, controllers.
- Energy Infrastructure – High-voltage transmission and grid-scale batteries.
- Footwear Manufacturing – Support for design, machinery, and production of both leather and non-leather footwear.
MSME Boost Measures (Complementary to NMM):
- Credit Guarantee Cover increased to ₹10 crore (from ₹5 crore).
- Investment and Turnover Limits for MSME classification raised by 2.5× and 2×, respectively.
