Why in News?
The U.S. administration announced a new high-value immigration pathway called the “Trump Gold Card”, designed to offer a fast-track route to U.S. residency and eventual citizenship for individuals who can provide substantial economic or strategic benefit to the United States.

About the Programme:
- Announced 11 December 2025.
- A million-dollar residency visa intended as an alternative to traditional pathways like H-1B or Green Card categories.
- Proposed as a mechanism to retain high-skilled students, especially from countries like India and China, who often return home after studies due to visa constraints.
- Companies hiring top foreign graduates may also “buy” the Gold Card to retain talent.
Eligibility & Conditions:
- High-net-worth individuals and corporations are primary applicants.
- Based on an individual’s ability to provide substantial benefit to the United States.
- Requires extensive background checks.
Fees / Financial Requirements:
- $1 million fee for individual applicants.
- $2 million for corporate applicants seeking to sponsor talent.
- Includes $15,000 DHS processing fee. (Department of Homeland Security)
- Applicants become eligible for U.S. citizenship after 5 years of Gold Card residency.
- After background clearance and fee payment, residency status issued under the Gold Card programme.
Platinum Card (upcoming): A premium variant with higher investment and priority vetting.
