Description:
About MGNREGS:
- Full Name: Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
- Legal Basis: Implemented under the MGNREGA, 2005.
- Ministry: Ministry of Rural Development.
- Objective: Provide at least 100 days of guaranteed wage employment per year to rural households willing to do unskilled manual work.
- Nature: Demand-driven, rights-based programme.
- The VB-G RAM G Bill (2025) introduced a major restructuring of the rural employment system by replacing the MGNREGA Act, 2005 with a new framework called Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin).
