On International Women’s Day (2026), the government of Assam announced Orunodoi Scheme a financial assistance measures aimed at supporting women and vulnerable households.
Description:
About:
- Flagship Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme of Assam to provide regular financial assistance to economically vulnerable households through women beneficiaries.
- Launched: 2 October 2020.
Key Features:
- Female member of the household is the designated beneficiary.
- Monthly financial support is credited directly to bank accounts through DBT.
- Intended to help households meet essential expenses such as food, medicines and utilities.
- Priority beneficiaries include widows, divorced/separated women, persons with disabilities, and economically vulnerable families.
Recent Development:
- Assam announced a ₹9,000 transfer to about 40 lakh beneficiary families.
- Includes Bihu bonus and four monthly instalments (January–April).
- Total outlay ≈ ₹3,600 crore, one of the largest single-day DBT transfers in Assam.
