The Forest Survey of India has halted the AI-based fortnightly deforestation alerts issued to states through the Anavaran portal.
Description:
Anavaran Deforestation Alert System:
- AI-based deforestation monitoring system developed by FSI.
- Operational since January 2024 as a pilot project.
Forest Survey of India (FSI):
- Nodal national organisation responsible for assessment and monitoring of India’s forest resources.
- Functions under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
- Headquartered in Dehradun.
- Established in 1981, succeeding the Pre-Investment Survey of Forest Resources (PISFR).
- Major Reports: India State of Forest Report (ISFR) – Published biennially, National Forest Inventory (NFI) reports.
