About SPR:
- Emergency crude oil stockpile for energy security during supply disruptions. Stored in underground rock caverns for safety and strategic security.
- Concept emerged after the 1973 Oil Crisis.
- Maintained by Indian Strategic Petroleum Reserves Limited (ISPRL).
- Storage Locations: Phase-I: Visakhapatnam, Mangaluru, & Padur. Phase-II Expansion: Proposed at Chandikhol (Odisha) and Padur (expansion); Future sites include Bikaner (Rajasthan) and Rajkot (Gujarat).
