Context:
The Justice K.G. Balakrishnan Commission has completed its report examining the issue of granting Scheduled Caste (SC) status to Dalits who have converted to religions other than Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism.

Explanation:
- The commission Constituted by the Union Government in October 2022 as a Commission of Inquiry.
- It is Chaired by Justice K. G. Balakrishnan, former Chief Justice of India.
- Established under the provisions of the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952.
- Mandate: It Examine whether SC status can be extended to Dalits who have converted to Christianity or Islam.
- SC status is governed by the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950.
- At present, SC status is available to Hindu, Sikh (since 1956), and Buddhist (since 1990) Dalits.
- Article 341 of the Constitution empowers the President to specify Scheduled Castes, subject to parliamentary law.
