Context:
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recently held the 57th Director General-level Border Coordination Conference in New Delhi to discuss illegal border crossings, human trafficking, smuggling and other security issues along the India–Bangladesh border.

- The Border Security Force (BSF) was established in 1965 under the Ministry of Home Affairs and is India’s primary border-guarding force on the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders.
- The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) is Bangladesh’s paramilitary border security force responsible for guarding the country’s international borders.
- India and Bangladesh share a 4,096.7 km border, India’s longest international border with any country.
- The border passes through West Bengal, Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram.
- Key border-management mechanisms include Coordinated Border Management Plan (CBMP), Joint Border Conferences, Border Outposts (BOPs) and confidence-building measures.
- Major trans-border concerns include illegal migration, human trafficking, narcotics smuggling, cattle smuggling, counterfeit currency and arms trafficking.
- The border includes diverse geographical features such as riverine stretches, enclaves (resolved through the 2015 Land Boundary Agreement), forests and densely populated settlements.
