- Require uninterrupted power and enormous water volumes – straining deficit grids and water networks.
- Forcible clearing of farmland, coastal zones and communities raises ecological and social justice concerns.
- Hyperscale centres employ only a few dozen technicians – making job creation claims misleading.
- EIA was waived for the Google-Adani project in Visakhapatnam – a 480-acre facility in a vulnerable coastal zone.
- DCW estimates US opposition blocked $152 billion in projects in 2025; EU has shifted toward smaller, sustainable regional centres.
Way Forward:
- Reinstate mandatory EIA; replace blanket concessions with conditional green incentive frameworks.
