Türkiye and FAO Launch Turquoise Nexus Initiative.
Explanation:
- The Turquoise Nexus Initiative is a joint effort by the incoming COP31 Presidency of Türkiye and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to tackle the intertwined global challenges of food security, water management, and climate adaptation.
- Launched in Bonn, the framework seeks to eliminate fragmented approaches to climate action and offers the following goals and mechanisms:
- Integrated Policy: Aligns food, water, and climate adaptation strategies within national climate plans and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
- Targeted Climate Finance: Supports developing nations by channeling resources directly to farmers, cooperatives, and smallholders.
- Inclusive Implementation: Operates as a country-led platform engaging governments, financial institutions, and agricultural stakeholders ahead of its formal launch.
- Partnership Framework: Works closely with the FAST (Food and Agriculture for Sustainable Transformation) Partnership to accelerate tangible, on-the-ground action.
