- The National Mission on Cultural Mapping (NMCM) aims to document and preserve India’s tangible and intangible cultural heritage through village-level cultural mapping.
- Mera Gaon Meri Dharohar (MGMD) creates village cultural profiles, documenting artists, artisans, folk art groups, cultural institutions, festivals, crafts and traditional knowledge.
- The Mission focuses on documentation, not registration; hence it does not maintain category-wise or state-wise registers of artists and does not provide financial assistance, insurance or social security.
- The initiative supports the preservation of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH), including folk theatre, music, dance, crafts, oral traditions and performing arts, while separate integration with tourism, education or skill development is not currently provided.
