Context
Recently, the Indian and U.S. armies commenced the 22nd edition of Exercise Yudh Abhyas 2026, focusing on high-altitude warfare, long-range precision fires, counter-drone capabilities and operational interoperability.

Explanation
- Yudh Abhyas is an annual bilateral military exercise between the Indian Army and the U.S. Army, conducted alternately in India and the United States.
- Started in 2004, it aims to improve interoperability, meaning the ability of both armies to operate effectively together.
- The 22nd edition (2026) is being held in India from September 9–28, with emphasis on operations in high-altitude terrain.
- The U.S. has deployed Arctic-trained troops based in Alaska, bringing experience in extreme cold-weather operations.
- Training covers long-range precision fires, which enable accurate engagement of distant targets, and counter-drone systems for detecting and neutralising hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
- The U.S. Army’s 3rd Multi-Domain Task Force is also participating, highlighting integration across land, air, maritime, space and cyber domains.
