Context
The PM Vishwakarma Scheme completed three years on 17 September 2026, with 30 lakh traditional artisans and craftspeople registered after the prescribed verification process. The scheme provides integrated support through skill training, modern tools, concessional credit, digital incentives and market linkages.
Explanation
- PM Vishwakarma is a Central Sector Scheme launched in 2023 and implemented by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
- It supports artisans and craftspeople working with their hands and tools across 18 traditional trades, including carpenters, blacksmiths, potters, cobblers and tailors.
- Beneficiaries receive a PM Vishwakarma Certificate and ID Card for formal recognition.
- Support includes basic and advanced skill training, a ₹15,000 toolkit incentive, digital-transaction incentives and marketing assistance.
- Collateral-free enterprise development loans are provided in two tranches of ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh at a concessional 5% interest rate.
- Implementation involves the Ministry of MSME, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) and Department of Financial Services (DFS).
- Beneficiary identification follows a three-stage verification process, involving Gram Panchayats/Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) and government authorities.
