Context:
Based on UGC recommendations (2023), the Ministry of Education has issued over 12 Letters of Intent to top foreign universities to set up campuses in India.

Foreign educational institutions in India:
- One U.K. university has already opened in Gurugram for 2025–26 session and others will follow in Bengaluru, Chennai, Mumbai, and NCR.
- NEP 2020: It is in accordance with the NEP 2020 vision for global competitiveness while staying rooted in Indian ethos. NEP 2020 calls for re-imagining higher education to make India globally competitive.
- UGC Guidelines: UGC’s 2023 regulatory framework also permits foreign universities to set up campuses in India with operational autonomy and light regulation. It aims to enhance access to world-class education domestically, reduce dependency on studying abroad.
