- Strategic Frontier: Ladakh guarded India’s northern defences since 1947. Volunteer soldiers, deeply familiar with terrain, secured Ladakh in early post-independence years.

- 1962 War: Fought overwhelmingly in the context of the odds against China.
- 1999 Kargil War: Ladakhi soldiers, like Col. Chewang Rinchen & Sonam Wangchuk, displayed unmatched bravery.
- Owing to their bravery they earned the title “Snow Warriors”.
- Cultural Significance: Land of monasteries, pashmina, and unique Buddhist-Muslim harmony and a region where culture, ecology, and security intertwine.
