Uday Krishna Reddy’s journey from a simple village in the Prakasam district to getting an All India Rank of 350 in the UPSC 2024 exam is a tale of strength, perseverance, and unshakable commitment. His is a life punctuated by early hardships and personal struggles and one that inspires millions who have dreams, regardless of obstacles in their way.
Uday Krishna Reddy was born in Singarayakonda mandal’s Ullapalem village. He lost his mother at the age of a four-and-a-half-year-old child and his father at the age of 15. His grandmother, Ramanamma, a wage laborer, brought him up. Uday faced huge financial and psychological problems. Nevertheless, his grandmother supported him, and she imparted to him the importance of education, which was his source of hope and courage.
Uday Krishna Reddy studied at Zilla Parishad school and finished his schooling and subsequently studied for his Bachelor of Arts at Jawahar Bharathi Degree College. He used to work part-time as a ‘lab technician’ at a private diabetic clinic while studying at intermediate level to finance his education. He was employed in the police force as a constable in 2012. He worked there dedicatedly until an agonizing incident occurred in 2018 that altered the course of his life.
Uday Krishna Reddy quit his police career following this humiliating experience. His circle inspector, having a personal vendetta, humiliated him in front of almost 60 officers directing him to do an additional drill for more than an hour as a punishment. This public shaming hurt Uday badly, but, like Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who also suffered from enormous humiliation because of his social status, Uday did not allow this to shape his life ahead. Ambedkar, though insulted and spurned by society, rose above the animosity to become the creator of India’s Constitution. Likewise, Uday, rather than giving in to the slur, concentrated on his dreams and redirected his journey towards a larger than life aspiration of becoming a civil servant.
Convinced to pursue the UPSC exam, Uday Krishna Reddy encountered numerous obstacles along the way. Despite setbacks in his first attempts in 2019, 2021, and 2022, where he narrowly missed the cut-off, his perseverance remained unshaken. In 2023, after years of hard work and preparation, he finally achieved his goal, securing a rank of 780. He devoted eight to ten hours every day to studying, focusing on Political Science and International Relations, his chosen subject for the UPSC exam. La Excellence’s
Dr. Rambabu Sir’s’ Current Affairs assisted Uday in preparing to tackle effectively the requirements of the exam.
The emotional and financial support from his maternal uncle and brother went a long way in keeping Uday Krishna Reddy motivated. Uday’s determination and hard work paid off when he attained an All India Rank of 350 in the UPSC 2024 examination. He owes his strength to Lord Hanuman, whom he regards as his source of power and inspiration.
Now, Uday Krishna Reddy is not only a government servant but an inspiration for future civil servants and all those who face adversity. His success story is the best example of the might of discipline, determination, and confidence in oneself. Similar to Ambedkar, who utilized his experiences of hardship to introduce revolutionary change into society, Uday hopes to work for the poor, protect animals, and combat drug addiction, which he believes is one of the greatest dangers facing future generations.
One of the most important objectives of Uday Krishna Reddy is to launch a 109 service for stray animals, just like the 108 emergency service. He is also committed to establishing rehabilitation centers for stray animals and holding Praja Darbars in order to stay connected with the people.
Uday Krishna Reddy’s rise from being a constable to the post of civil servant highlights the need to remain steadfast in one’s aims, regardless of the obstacles. His life is a great inspiration that with fearlessness, toughness, and unshakeable resolve, any goal can be achieved. And also what he wishes to bring to the administration is the human touch and service orientation. And all the abuses, humiliations he underwent made him a tough guy and dedicated warrior.
