Context:

Saurabh Garg, Secretary of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, announced the revision of the GDP base year. The current base year of 2011-12 will be replaced with 2022-23.

Evolution of GDP base year Revisions in India:
  • The revised data series with the new base year will be released on February 27, 2026.
  • The base year for the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) will also be revised to 2022-23.
  • The base year for the Consumer Price Index (CPI) will be revised to 2023-24.
