Why in News :
ISRO and Axiom Space are coordinating ahead of the June 19 Axiom-4 Mission (Ax-4) launch, where Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will conduct seven microgravity experiments during his 14-day stay at the ISS.
Description :
- Axiom-4 (Ax-4) is the fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
- It is organized by Axiom Space in collaboration with NASA.
- The launch vehicle is SpaceX Dragon spacecraft, launching from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, Florida.
- The crew will spend up to 14 days aboard the ISS.
- Objectives include:
- Scientific research
- Technology demonstrations
- Educational outreach
- Research areas: materials science, biology, Earth observation, etc.
- Will include the first Indian astronaut to visit the ISS, as part of a joint NASA–ISRO effort.
- Also marks the first astronauts from Poland and Hungary to stay aboard the ISS on a private mission.
