CEREBO, a portable, non-invasive brain injury diagnostic tool developed indigenously by ICMR and partners, was launched to detect traumatic brain injuries like intracranial bleeding and edema within a minute, offering a cost-effective alternative to CT/MRI, especially useful in rural and emergency settings.

About the Device:
- Handheld, portable, non-invasive tool for Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI)
- Uses near-infrared spectroscopy + machine learning
- Radiation-free, safe for infants & pregnant women
- Detects intracranial bleeding & oedema in <1 minute
- Colour-coded results for quick triage
- Operable by paramedics or even unskilled staff (30 min training)
Significance:
- Addresses accessibility gap where CT/MRI unavailable (rural, emergency, ambulances, disaster zones)
- Cost-effective (lowers imaging costs)
- Speeds up diagnosis – critical as 50% of TBI deaths occur within 2 hours
- Helps in early intervention, reducing deaths & disabilities
