India’s First Mahe-class Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Shallow Watercraft has been commissioned into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Launched by General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Army Staff — first time an Army Chief commissioned a naval warship. Marks growing tri-service synergy and India’s indigenous defence capability.

A. Classification & Role:
- Class: Mahe-class ASW Shallow Watercraft.
- Primary role:
- Anti-submarine operations in littoral (shallow coastal) waters.
- Coastal defence & surveillance.
- Protection of India’s maritime borders.
- First vessel of a planned 8-vessel Mahe-class series.
B. Indigenisation:
- Over 80% indigenous content.
- Designed and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL).
