At Semicon India 2025, PM Modi announced that India aims to secure a significant share of the $1-trillion global semiconductor market, with 10 approved projects worth $18 billion, promising faster approvals and advancing the India Semiconductor Mission’s next phase.
Description:
- Nodal Agency: Ministry of Electronics & IT (MeitY).
- Objectives:
- Boost chip design startups & indigenous IP.
- Set up fabs, packaging & testing units (ATMP/OSAT).
- Support R&D, industry–academia collaboration.
- Reduce import dependence.
- Schemes under India Semiconductor Mission (ISM):
- Semiconductor Fabs Scheme: Up to 50% support for fabs. Display Fabs Scheme: Up to 50% support for LCD/AMOLED fabs. Compound Semiconductors & ATMP/OSAT Scheme: 50% support for MEMS, sensors, silicon photonics, etc.
- Design Linked Incentive (DLI) Scheme: Up to ₹15 cr per company for chip design startups/MSMEs.
| Semicon India 2025: Held at: Yashobhoomi, New Delhi (2–4 Sept 2025). Inaugurated by: PM Modi. Aim: Build a robust, resilient, sustainable semiconductor ecosystem. Focus: Fabs, advanced packaging, AI, R&D, smart manufacturing, investments. Participation: 20,750+ attendees, 2,500 delegates (48 countries), 150+ speakers, 350+ exhibitors. Specials: 6-country roundtables, startup & workforce pavilions. Background: Earlier editions – 2022 (Bengaluru), 2023 (Gandhinagar), 2024 (Greater Noida). Significance: Supports India Semiconductor Mission (2021), DLI scheme, Atmanirbhar Bharat, supply chain resilience. |
