About Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM):
- Launch Year: 2019
- Objective: Universal FHTC to all rural households; 55 litres per capita per day potable water; community-led water supply management.
- Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme
- Nodal Ministry: Department of Drinking Water & Sanitation, Ministry of Jal Shakti
- Background: Restructured from the National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP).
- Funding Pattern: 90:10 – Himalayan & NE States, 100% – UTs & 50:50 – Other States.
- Governance Mandate:
- At least 50% women in Village Water & Sanitation Committees (VWSCs).
JJM Extended till 2028:
- Union Budget 2025–26 formally extended the Mission to 2028.
- Focus of extended phase: Strengthening source sustainability, improving water quality monitoring, Ensuring asset durability in high-coverage States.
