Context
Protests have intensified against the Ken–Betwa River Linking Project in Madhya Pradesh over alleged irregularities in rehabilitation, compensation, and Gram Sabha consent.

Explanation:
- The Ken–Betwa Link Project is India’s first river interlinking project under the National Perspective Plan (NPP), aimed at transferring surplus water from the Ken River to the Betwa River.
- The project includes the Daudhan Dam, a 221-km canal, hydropower generation and irrigation facilities benefiting Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
- The Ken River is a tributary of the Yamuna, while the Betwa River is also a Yamuna tributary; both belong to the Ganga Basin.
- Major concerns include forest diversion, submergence within the Panna Tiger Reserve, biodiversity loss, displacement of local communities, and compliance with Forest Rights Act, 2006 and environmental clearance norms.
