Context
The Indian Navy will commission Nipun, the second indigenous Nistar-class Diving Support Vessel (DSV), on August 31, 2026, at Mumbai. It was delivered to the Navy on July 30, 2026.

Explanation
- A Diving Support Vessel (DSV) supports deep-sea diving, underwater inspection, repair, salvage and submarine rescue.
- Nipun was designed and built by Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), Visakhapatnam, with nearly 75% indigenous content.
- Saturation diving allows divers to work at great depths for prolonged periods while reducing repeated decompression.
- Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) enable diver monitoring, underwater intervention and salvage.
- Dynamic positioning enables precise station-keeping during such operations.
- It serves as the mother ship for a Deep Submergence Rescue Vessel (DSRV) used to evacuate personnel from disabled submarines.
- Its induction strengthens submarine safety, maritime salvage and indigenous defence shipbuilding.
