Objective:
To ensure child protection, welfare, and holistic development of children, especially those in vulnerable conditions such as orphans, abandoned, or distressed children.
Key Features:
- Promotes family-based care – adoption, foster care, and sponsorship (reduces reliance on institutional care).
- Strengthens Child Protection Institutions:
- Child Welfare Committees (CWCs)
- Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs)
- District Child Protection Units (DCPUs)
- Focus on rehabilitation, reintegration, skill development, and counseling.
- Works under Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
- Promotes collaboration among Centre, States, NGOs, and community organizations.
- Subsumes: Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS).
