Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched Operation KGH-2 to eradicate Left-Wing Extremism (LWE) by March 2026.
Description:
Objective:
- Mission: Part of the Union Government’s target to make India Naxal-free by March 31, 2026.
- Target: Dismantle the last Maoist strongholds in the Karreguttalu Hills (KGH) or Black Forest.
- Timeline: Launched February 17, 2026, following the success of KGH-1 (2025).
Geography & Force Composition:
- Terrain: Karreguttalu Hill, located on the Chhattisgarh-Telangana border (Bastar and Bijapur-Mulugu axis), is a long-standing Maoist stronghold.
- Lead Forces: CRPF and its elite jungle warfare wing CoBRA, in coordination with state police.
- Key Asset: Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) (e.g., Ghalgam FOB) allow permanent presence in erstwhile “no-go” zones.
Niyad Nellanar Yojana:
- A Chhattisgarh government initiative aimed at delivering integrated development and basic services to remote Left-Wing Extremism (LWE)-affected villages.
- It complements security operations by strengthening governance presence and promoting livelihood, infrastructure, and social inclusion in interior tribal areas.
Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF):
- It is India’s largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, primarily tasked with internal security, counter-insurgency, and law-and-order operations.
Previous Operations:
- Operation Greyhound refers to anti-Naxal operations conducted by the Greyhounds, an elite special force of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Police. Force Raised in 1989.
- Operation Green Hunt is an unofficial media term used to describe a large-scale coordinated offensive launched around 2009–10 against Maoists in central India.
