Context:
A 13-nation military exercise, PRAGATI 2026, has commenced at the Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya. Apart from India, soldiers from 12 friendly countries are participating to strengthen professional exchange and military-to-military cooperation.
- Military exercises are organised to improve interoperability, joint training, tactical coordination and defence diplomacy among participating armed forces.
- PRAGATI 2026 involves India and countries such as Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.
- Such exercises are important for India’s Act East Policy, regional security cooperation, capacity building, counter-insurgency preparedness and stronger ties with neighbouring and Indo-Pacific countries.
