Why in News?
The Centre has asked States not to process applications for Sikh pilgrims’ visit to Nankana Sahib, Pakistan, for Guru Nanak’s birth anniversary in November, citing security concerns. Punjab leaders and Sikh bodies criticised the move, urging the government to reconsider its decision.

- Location: City in Punjab province, Pakistan.
- Significance: Birthplace of Guru Nanak Dev Ji (1469) – founder of Sikhism.
- Main Shrine: Gurdwara Janam Asthan (Nankana Sahib Gurdwara) – built over Guru Nanak’s birthplace.
- Builder: Constructed by Maharaja Ranjit Singh after visiting the site in 1818–19 (returning from Battle of Multan).
