Context:

A tiger was recently photographed through a camera trap inside Arunachal Pradesh’s D’Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary after nearly two decades.

  • D’Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary is located near Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh along the Brahmaputra floodplains.
  • It is named after Daying Ering, a noted political leader and former chairman of the Ering Commission.
  • The sanctuary consists mainly of riverine forests, grasslands, marshes, and wetlands supporting rich biodiversity.
  • It is known for species such as tiger, elephant, wild buffalo, hispid hare, and Chinese pangolin.
  • Camera trapping is an important wildlife monitoring technique used in tiger estimation and biodiversity assessment.
  • The sighting is being viewed as evidence of improving ecological conditions and successful long-term conservation and monitoring efforts in the region
