Context:
The Pradhan MantriFormalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme has achieved a major milestone by sanctioning loans to over two lakh micro food processing enterprises.
Explanation:
- PMFME Scheme is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 2020 by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan for a period of 2020–21 to 2025–26.
- It aims to formalise unorganised micro food processing enterprises (MFPEs) through credit-linked capital subsidy, capacity building, technology upgradation, branding, marketing, and market linkage.
- The scheme provides a 35% credit-linked capital subsidy (maximum ₹10 lakh per unit) for eligible individual enterprises.
- It follows the One District One Product (ODOP) approach to promote district-specific products, strengthen local value chains, and encourage cluster-based development.
- PMFME supports Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, and entrepreneurs through Seed Capital, Common Incubation Centres (CICs), and District Resource Persons (DRPs).
- The scheme promotes formalisation through Udyam Registration, FSSAI licensing, and GST registration, contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, and Viksit Bharat @2047.
