Context
The Ministry of Rural Development participated in World Water Week 2026 in Stockholm, presenting India’s community-led, technology-enabled approach to rural water security. It highlighted Water Vision @2047, groundwater conservation and decentralised planning.

- India’s Water Vision @2047 seeks resilient, inclusive and sustainable water security through integrated planning, technology and community participation.
- Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) expands safe rural drinking water, while the National Initiative on Water Security (NIWS) prioritises conservation, recharge and harvesting according to groundwater stress.
- Yuktdhara uses Geographic Information System (GIS) and remote sensing for planning; E-Jal enables Gram Panchayat-level water budgeting.
- Gram Panchayats and Village Water and Sanitation Committees (VWSCs) plan and maintain assets, advancing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.
