1. Global Glaciers Record Fourth Consecutive Year of Ice-Mass Loss (Source: Down To Earth)
- The WMO State of Global Water Resources 2025 report states that 2025 was the fourth consecutive year when every major glaciated region recorded net ice-mass loss. Glaciers lost 408 ± 132 gigatonnes, contributing 1.1 ± 0.4 mm to sea-level rise.
2. India–New Zealand FTA to Take Effect from October 20 (Source: The Hindu)
- India and New Zealand have ratified their Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which will take effect on October 20, 2026. The agreement aims to double bilateral trade to about ₹35,000 crore within four to five years, while protecting India’s sensitive dairy and agricultural sectors.
3. India to attend ‘Partners for Multilateralism’ (P4M) meeting at UN(Source: The Hindu)
- Launched by the European Union, Brazil, Kenya and Canada, the initiative seeks stronger UN-based multilateralism and more representative global institutions.
4. Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT 2026: India–Mongolia Joint Military Exercise
- The 18th edition of Exercise NOMADIC ELEPHANT commenced at Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand, from 21 September to 3 October 2026. Nomadic Elephant is an annual, bilateral joint military exercise conducted between the Indian Army and the Mongolian Armed Forces focused on counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations.
5. SLINEX-26: India–Sri Lanka Bilateral Maritime Exercise
- The 13th edition of SLINEX, the annual India–Sri Lanka bilateral maritime exercise, is being conducted at Visakhapatnam from 17–21 September 2026. It comprises a Harbour Phase followed by a Sea Phase, aimed at strengthening naval interoperability and maritime cooperation
