Context: The government has announced hiking sugarcane FRP by ₹25 to ₹340 per quintal for the 2024-25 season.
Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP):
- It is the minimum price at which mill owners are bound to purchase sugarcane from the farmers.
- It is based on ‘Sugarcane Control Order 1966′ under the Essential Commodities Act 1955.
- It is determined on the basis of recommendations of the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP).
- Approved by Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA).
- Some States announce their own State Advised Price (SAP) for sugarcane.
