DAILY ROUTINE OF A SUCCESSFUL IAS ASPIRANT

After interacting with nearly 25 toppers and analysing the routine of our 80 rankers this year, we write this blog. What makes a man or breaks a man is his habits, routine and schedule.

If someone religiously follow their routine they have a very high chance of doing well in this exam. If routine is not followed, procrastination is the immediate outcome, followed by low confidence, frequently rescheduling their timetable.

Routine differs from one person to another. There are toppers who start a day from morning 5 AM and the day by evening 8 P.M. and also people who start their day at 11 A.M. and study till late night 2 AM. Both the people got ranks. But one thing that is common among them is the routine they follow. No compromises with the schedule whatever the reason could be.

ASPIRANT 1:

Let us take an example of toppers who start at 5 A.M. They wake up early, meditate, prayer or exercise and rush to study table by 6 A.M. Then they spend 2 hours for ‘THE HINDU’ and revision of last night’s topics. Then fresh up and have breakfast. By 9 A.M. in the morning, they start their main course study for upto four hours. Of course with small intervals. Imagine how effective their day would be if they are putting 6 productive hours of study just before Lunch break.

Then Lunch and a small ‘power nap’. All these within a maximum of 2 hours. Now the time is 3 P.M. The second part of the day starts. Now they spend time on areas like PYQ analysis, mock tests, answer writing practice and optional subject. Schedule of 3PM to 6 PM is mainly for test series or Optionals. A dedicated  3 hour time is to be spent on Optional paper to have a meaningful outcome. That paper can not be read in bits and pieces. It is time demanding and time consuming. So one should give enough time for that.

Half an hour of break, brisk walking, a face wash and some healthy snacks later, they focus on introspection, note making and revison. Post dinner and a small walk later, they plan for the next day. Looking for the next days resources, where to start, what topics need to be covered and any micro adjustments if needed. That’s how planned your day should be. If you don’t plan your next day’s schedule today, you would waste valuable first few hours on finding out what to do today. So a dedicated and well planned routine and its implementation can put you consistent and improve your scores.

ASPIRANT:2

Imagine she is a working professional who is married and living with her family. She has a very supportive family. But being a women she has few responsibilities. So it is quite natural that her day would start late and can not strictly adhere to the schedule . What she can do is micro management of the schedule. After all, women are the first managers the human civilization has seen. Her day starts at 9 A.M. with Optional or other standard syllabus till Lunch.

She needs to manage both office work and UPSC. So can have Lunch listening to our ‘Rapid Revision Classes’ or Sansad TV debates to save time. On weekends she can take coaching from weekend batches of La Excellence and attain daily targets with the help of our mentorship programme. Daily Answer Writing and one weekly test under our mentor’s guidance can help her fix the scheduling issues.

Once she clears the prelims exam, she can be part of our Mains Core Group and be a part of the best peer group in India. By being in such Core Group, she can be assocaited with the people giving mains and interview and enhance her capabilities. After all, it is said that UPSC Mains exam is a team work rather than an individual sport. One of our student Dr.Kiranmayi cleared CSE exam in 2021 with AIR-56. She is married, had a baby of 5 years old. Even then she cleared the exam with outstanding score, all thanks to her routine and discipline.

We, at La Excellence have created the best ecosystem for meritorious students free of cost.We work towards creating a peer group where you can accomplish your daily tasks and achieve your goals.

Now if we compare the daily schedule of the two serious aspirants, what is common?

Dedication and Commitment to excel. In case 1, the aspirant has enough time to prepare, where as, in case 2, she hardly finds 5 hours a day excepting weekends. One needs to find ways on maintaining a robust routine. If one has a routine they can allocate time effectively for their subjects and given a right mentorship, they can definitely clear this unpredictable exam. Your choices matter!
