The Defence Ministry is in the final stages of approving the sixth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), likely to be released in the coming months. It will mainly cover equipment for the Navy and Army that must eventually be sourced from domestic industry.

Explanation
- Positive Indigenisation Lists (PILs) specify defence equipment, sub-systems, assemblies and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) that must be procured from Indian sources after stipulated timelines.
- They are issued to progressively restrict imports, strengthen domestic defence manufacturing and advance Atmanirbhar Bharat.
- The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) has already issued five PILs covering 509 major items since 2020.
