Context
According to the latest UN State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report, Africa has surpassed Asia as the continent with the highest number of undernourished people.

Explanation
- Hunger (undernourishment) refers to chronic insufficient dietary energy intake required for a healthy life and is measured by the Prevalence of Undernourishment (PoU).
- The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World (SOFI) report is published annually by FAO, IFAD, UNICEF, WFP and WHO.
- Food security rests on four pillars: availability, access, utilisation and stability.
- Food insecurity is driven by conflict, climate change, economic shocks, poverty and displacement, with Sub-Saharan Africa being the most affected region.
- The report monitors progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – Zero Hunger, which aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition by 2030.
