DRDO has successfully carried out final development trials of the UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile ULPGM-V3. The missile is designed for precision strikes, anti-drone combat, and network-centric warfare, strengthening India’s indigenous drone-launched missile capability.
- ULPGM stands for UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile.
- It is a drone-launched missile system developed by DRDO for modern battlefield requirements.
- The latest version, ULPGM-V3, is an upgraded variant compared to earlier V1 and V2 versions.
- V1 was a basic free-fall precision missile, while V2 had longer range, mid-course target updates, and better battlefield utility.
- V3 adds capability to engage drones, helicopters, moving targets, armoured vehicles, tanks, bunkers and fortified structures.
- It has an advanced guidance system using multiple sensors to track targets accurately.
- It can operate in day and night conditions, increasing all-weather battlefield usefulness.
- The missile has fire-and-forget capability, meaning once launched, it can independently track and hit the target.
- It can carry different types of warheads such as anti-armour warheads, fragmentation warheads, and bunker-busting warheads.
